“Her Health, Her Rights"

Scaling Sugar Daddy Awareness Classes – piloted to Standard 8 pupils in Lilongwe District.

Sugar Daddy Awareness is a tried and tested curriculum-based intervention, backed by UNICEF research. Our primary target audience is Standard 8 girls within Lilongwe and we intend to expand our reach outside Lilongwe by scaling up this SRHR initiative into all the other 8 districts in the Central Region of Malawi. We aim to bring about a shift in attitudes towards these crossgenerational relationships by openly discussing the risks associated with them. We acknowledge that these older men, in both perceived and actual power, are harmful to young girls as they have had significantly more years of sexual experience and are most likely to contract STIs including HIV/AIDS. This is very damaging to girls’ futures as most drop out from schools and resort to child marriages which is yet another major problem girls face in Malawi.
